Alleson A. Mason

Dr. Alleson A. Mason is a researcher and educator at the University of Windsor. Her research focuses on how marginalized communities organize and mobilize the resources at their disposal to improve educational outcomes for themselves and their children. Mason has worked with various professors in the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Nursing on several projects, most notably with Professor Bukola Salami as part of a transdisciplinary, international research collaborative using qualitative research methods and transnational and intersectional theoretical frameworks to investigate healthcare policy and the healthcare needs and experiences of diverse immigrant and refugee groups in Canada.

As a previous Teaching Assistant at the University of Alberta, she assisted the principal instructor with the course Contexts of Education (EDU 300/100) by facilitating small group discussions in classes of 27-29 students. Mason has received several scholarships and awards, including the Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship (2019), Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship (2018), Edmonton Refugee and Emerging Communities Award (2018), Graduate Student Scholarly Conference Award (2016), and the Department of Educational Policy Studies’ Doctoral Recruitment Scholarship (2016).
