Barbara Ann G. Hamilton-Hinch

Dr. Barbara Ann G. Hamilton-Hinch is an Assistant Professor in the School of Health and Human Performance and the Assistant Vice Provost of Equity and Inclusion at Dalhousie University. Her work examines the impact of structural, systemic, and institutional racism on diverse populations, particularly people of African descent. Her research focuses on the benefits and challenges of culturally relevant programs for postsecondary students, examining the impact of racism on the health and wellbeing of people of African descent, closing the opportunity gap for African Nova Scotian learners, optimizing services for families living in communities that have been marginalized, racialized bodies and elite sports, and mobilizing supports and programs for incarcerated individuals integrating back into the community.

Her research interests include HIV testing, institutional racism, racism and health, prostate cancer, and diversity. Dr. Hamilton-Hinch is co-lead of the Healthy Populations Institute Flagship Project, Improving the Health Outcomes of People of African Descent, one of the founders of the Imhotep Legacy Academy, co-chair of the Promoting Leadership in Health for African Nova Scotians (PLANS) Program and co-chair of the Faculty of Health Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
